In alignment with Immaculata-La Salle High School's overall mission and vision we, as facilitators of learning, believe that concepts of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math are inherently interconnected and essential to a comprehensive education. We are committed to fostering STEAM literacy in all students, nurturing active lifelong learners who become responsible global citizens.  Students in this program learn to identify and leverage the connections between these disciplines, empowering them to positively shape their lives and contribute to their communities.

STEAM Program Requirements

​1. Comply with all requirements of the Student-Parent Handbook

2. Maintain a 3.0 overall GPA and achieve a B or higher in all STEAM courses

3. Complete a Program of Study that includes:

​

  • Science: 4 Credits

  • Math: 4 Credits

  • STEAM Focus Electives: 4 Credits

  • Minimum of 1 Fine Art or 1 Practical Art Credit​​

​

4. Maintain a STEAM Portfolio

​

  • Post semester artifacts and reflection

  • Submit a Senior Portfolio

​

5. Participate in Outreach

​

  • Maintain membership in at least one ILS club or honor society. Activities must include off campus collaboration or competition with students from other schools.

  • Volunteer Hours at Mercy Hospital are required for the Health Science Focus. 

Admission into the STEAM Program is only offered to Incoming Freshmen. Students may apply to one of the following focus areas:

Engineering Focus

The Engineering Focus provides exposure to career skills in various engineering fields. The course of study begins with Introduction to Engineering Design Honors, which provides students with a foundation of knowledge and technically oriented experiences in applied engineering and its effects on our lives. The remaining courses are honors-level courses in Principles of Engineering, Foundations of Robotics, and Engineering Design and Development where students complete a Senior Capstone Project. Students who successfully complete the program will receive extensive training in the web-based 3D CAD design platform Onshape and the open-source electronics platform Arduino.

Global Business Focus

The Global Business Focus allows students to expand their global mindset, business knowledge, professional skills, and ethical frameworks. Students will discover how leaders drive success by mastering key competencies, fostering meaningful connections, and inspiring visions that transform organizations. This focus will provide insights into marketing, personal finance, accounting, business management, international business, economics, and entrepreneurship. Successful students in this focus have an opportunity to earn up to 12 college dual-enrollment credits through Miami Dade College.

Digital Arts Focus

The Digital Arts Focus equips students with career-ready skills in film, television production, and print media. Students have the option to begin by building a foundation in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, with opportunities to earn industry-recognized Adobe certifications. In TV production courses, they gain hands-on experience with Final Cut Pro while producing the school’s daily shows. Throughout the program, students strengthen their technical proficiency, creativity, and artistry, culminating in a college-ready portfolio. Successful completion provides valuable certifications and resume-building credentials to support future academic and career pursuits.

Health Science Focus

The Health Science Focus introduces students to the foundations of medicine and healthcare. Students study anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and the fundamentals of patient care while exploring career pathways in health-related fields. Emphasis is placed on understanding how the body functions and how healthcare professionals promote health and well-being. Courses include topics health and nutrition, physical education, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and nursing assistant training. Through classroom learning, labs, and hands-on experience, students gain practical skills that prepare them for advanced study in health and medical sciences. Our partnership with Mercy Hospital provides students with access to training labs, allows them to connect with medical professionals, and students earn volunteer hours that build valuable experience in real healthcare settings. Students who successfully complete this program will be certified in First Aid and CPR and are eligible to sit for the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam.

Legal Studies Focus

The Legal Studies Focus provides students with an opportunity to become familiar with legal concepts and using evidence and analysis in the courtroom. It is designed to help students analyze the policies and practices of our legal system while also simulating real-world civil and criminal cases. The focus builds with a basic understanding of the American legal system and how it differs and interacts with foreign nations. The following courses address the basics of criminal law, property law, contract law, and current topics in law. Students are challenged not only write and think like lawyers, but to participate in mock trials. Successful students in this focus have an opportunity to earn up to 12 college dual-enrollment credits through Miami Dade College in the areas of constitutional law, criminal law, and evidentiary procedure.

Fitness and Sports Studies Focus

Students in the Fitness & Sport Studies Focus will explore how the body grows stronger and healthier, how the brain builds habits that change lives, and how sports are promoted and managed. Through both classroom learning and hands-on practice, students gain real-world experience to shape their future - whether that means becoming a collegiate athlete or pursuing a career in fitness, athletic training, or sport studies. Courses in this focus include topics in health and nutrition, physical education and weight training, anatomy & physiology, care & prevention of athletic injuries, sports marketing and exercise science. Students who successfully complete the program will be certified in First Aid and CPR, as well as eligible to sit for the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certification exam.
