INGENIOUS GENERATION
STEAM DAY
MARCH 16, 2024
There is currently a shortage of skilled workers and students in STEM, and it is estimated that about 3.5 million jobs in this area will go unfilled by the next year in the United States. In addition, women make up only 34% of the current STEM workforce, and the gap continues to broaden. For this reason, a group of students from the ILS STEAM Engineering Focus, with our faculty’s support, has created the Ingenious Girls program that will be encouraging students, especially girls, to consider career opportunities in these fields.
As part of this initiative, ILS will be hosting STEAM Day to celebrate a new Ingenious Generation: an event filled with activities to give students an opportunity to participate in hands-on activities and share experiences with students of similar interests from other schools. Activities this year include those in the areas Health Science, Fitness & Sports Studies, Global Business Leadership, Digital Arts, Engineering, and Legal Studies.
The event is designed for current 7th graders who have excelled in Math and Science, and/or have a genuine interest in these fields. No previous experience is required; however, the students are expected to use their creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork during the event.
